Thread veins, also known as telangiectasia, spider veins, broken veins, surface veins or venous flares are small blood vessels that have become dilated near the surface of the skin. Thread veins usually measure only a few millimetres. Thread veins are not varicose veins.

Thread veins and spider veins are commonly found on the face (around the nose, cheeks, and chin, more commonly known as rosacea) or the legs (Upper thigh, below the knee joint, and around the ankles).

Thread veins are often treated with Veinwave™ therapy which uses a Veinwave™ pulse, treating them as the therapist traces along your thread veins.

A common myth is that this condition is caused from crossing your legs too much. There is no research to validate this assumption.

It is true that thread veins are harmless. When tiny veins such as thread veins become dilated it has no significant effect upon the functioning of the rest of the venous system.

Thread veins can cause distress as the sufferer often feels self-conscious, particularly if the blemish is on an exposed part of the body, such as the legs.

The thread vein consultation process at our skin care clinic in London

The consultation process is designed to focus on understanding your medical history in relation to your thread veins.

By understanding this we are able to create a picture of how/what may be causing the thread veins and therefore determine the best treatment process.

Once this has been completed, your therapist will view your thread veins under polarised light (using a special visor) to assess your thread veins. (This helps to make the thread veins more visible).

The treatment process at our skin care clinic in London

Thread vein treatment is carried out on a reclined couch specially designed to help us in our treatment but also to keep you very comfortable.

When the treatment starts, the therapist will place the tiny probe against your skin directly over a thread vein. This delivers a Veinwave™ pulse, which feels like a tiny heat pulse against your skin. This pulse traces along all of your thread veins and treat them with a Veinwave™ pulse.

After the area to be treated has received as many Veinwave™ pulses as required, your skin is treated with a soothing Aloe Vera gel.

You can immediately apply your usual makeup should you wish to do so.
